The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the men's international football championship contested by the national teams of FIFA member countries. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022.

This is the first World Cup to be held in the Arab world. [1] It was the second World Cup to be hosted entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournaments in South Korea and Japan. [2] Additionally, this tournament was the last to include 32 teams, with an increase to 48 teams planned for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Due to the intense summer heat in Qatar, the World Cup will take place from the end of November to the middle of December and will be the first tournament that will not take place in May, June, or July. It is scheduled to be played in a short period of 28 days.

17 countries have hosted the World Cup. Brazil, France, Italy, Germany, and Mexico have each hosted twice, while Uruguay, Switzerland, Sweden, Chile, England, Argentina, Spain, the United States, Japan and South Korea (jointly), South Africa, and Russia have each hosted once. Qatar will host the 2022 tournament, and 2026 will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico, which will give Mexico the distinction of being the first country to host games in three World Cups.
